Bajaj Chetak Urbane electric scooter launched at 1.15 lakh: Gets higher range and top speed

Bajaj Auto has introduced a new variant of its popular electric scooter, the Chetak, named the ‘Chetak Urbane.’ Priced at Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom), this electric vehicle (EV) offers an enticing option in the market. For those seeking additional features, there is an upgrade available with the ‘Tecpac,’ costing Rs 1.21 lakh (ex-showroom). This move aligns with Bajaj Auto’s commitment to providing diverse choices in the electric mobility space.

The Chetak Urbane retains the 2.9kWh battery pack from its predecessor but boasts an IDC-certified range of 113 km on a full charge. This exceeds the ARAI-certified range of 108 km for the Premium variant, indicating improved real-world performance. The Urbane, therefore, stands as a compelling option for those prioritizing an extended range in their electric scooters.

In terms of performance, the standard Chetak Urbane reaches a top speed of 63 kmph, consistent with the existing model. However, customers opting for the Tecpac upgrade can unlock a higher top speed of 73 kmph. The Tecpac package not only enhances speed but introduces a sport mode and incorporates features like hill-hold assist, reverse mode, and full-app connectivity. Moreover, the electric scooter features the same color LCD instrument cluster available with the Premium variant.

It’s worth noting that the charging dynamics have undergone a slight change. The Chetak Urbane now takes 4 hours and 50 minutes for a full charge, compared to the 3 hours and 50 minutes needed by the existing model. This adjustment is due to a drop in the charging rate from 800W to 650W for the new variant. Despite this change, the Urbane remains a practical and efficient choice for urban commuting.

The Chetak Urbane is available in four attractive color options: Matte Coarse Grey, Cyber White, Brooklyn Black, and Indigo Metallic. This diverse color palette ensures that consumers can choose a variant that aligns with their personal style preferences.

As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, Bajaj Auto’s strategic introduction of the Chetak Urbane reflects its commitment to staying at the forefront of innovation and providing Indian consumers with electric mobility solutions that cater to their diverse needs. The Chetak Urban will take on the likes of the Ola S1X, the Ather 450 and the TVS iQube electric scooters. While Bajaj has been a late entrant in the electric scooter space, coming in well after the likes of Ather and TVS Motors, the Chetak continues to be a steady seller for the brand. The Chetak Urbane is likely to bring in more volumes for the Pune-based two wheeler giant.
