On January 27, 2024, Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), made explosive allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He claimed that the BJP was attempting to poach seven AAP MLAs (Members of Legislative Assembly) by offering them bribes of Rs. 25 crore each and tickets to contest in the upcoming assembly elections. This accusation sent shockwaves through Indian politics, igniting a fierce war of words between the two parties.
Kejriwal’s Stance:
Kejriwal has remained steadfast in his accusations, refusing to back down despite pressure from the BJP and the Delhi Police. He has even gone a step further, claiming that the BJP has approached him directly, asking him to join their party in exchange for dropping the poaching allegations. In a public address, he declared, “They say ‘join us’, I say ‘never’. No matter what conspiracy they hatch against us, we will not surrender.”
BJP’s Retaliation:
The BJP has vehemently denied all allegations of MLA poaching, calling them “baseless” and “a desperate attempt to deflect attention from AAP’s own internal problems.” They have accused Kejriwal of making false accusations to garner sympathy and gain political mileage. The party has also filed a formal complaint with the Delhi Police, demanding an investigation into the Chief Minister’s claims.
