In a recent durability test conducted by YouTuber Zack Nelson, popularly known as JerryRigEverything, the OnePlus Open smartphone has emerged as a robust contender in the realm of foldable devices. Concerns about the long-term durability of foldable phones have been a significant barrier to their widespread adoption and the OnePlus Open has seemingly set a high bar in this regard.
The test encompassed classic durability benchmarks: scratching, burning, and assessing ingress protection. The outer 6.31-inch cover display, featuring proprietary Ceramic Guard protection, effortlessly withstood a Mohs level 7 pick. However, the inner screen, comprising Ultra Thin Glass, showed vulnerability with level 3 scratches. This is in line with the nature of flexible screens, which tend to be more plastic-like than glass. Notably, the back panel and camera module proved to be scratch-resistant.
The OnePlus Open’s hinge, designed to endure over a million folding cycles, demonstrated strength in the face of unconventional testing.
