Opposition to move no-confidence motion in Parliament today.

Some opposition parties part of the Indian National Developmental Alliance (INDIA) are set to move a no-confidence motion against the Modi government in the Lok Sabha over the Manipur violence on Wednesday. Lok Sabha MP and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury gave this information late on Tuesday night. The proposal to hand over the notice was discussed at a meeting of the constituent parties of ‘India’ on Tuesday morning.Sources said that after considering various options to force PM Narendra Modi to speak in Parliament over the Manipur violence, it was decided that this would be an effective way to force the government to start a discussion on the issue.Opposition parties are demanding that PM Modi answer in the House on Manipur violence. At the same time, the government says that it is ready for a discussion on Manipur, but the opposition is not allowing the discussion.Amid the deadlock in Parliament, parties in the opposition Alliance India have made it clear that they will not compromise on their stand of starting a discussion on Manipur only after the Prime Minister’s statement in the House. Sources said the option of bringing a no-confidence motion on Manipur to force the PM to speak in the House was discussed during a meeting of leaders of the opposition India alliance led by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament House on Tuesday morning.The opposition alliance knows that the Modi government has a sufficient majority in the mathematics of statistics in the Lok Sabha. In such a situation, the option of a no-confidence motion is a politically risky deal. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, when asked about the opposition’s clamour to move a no-confidence motion, said he was not aware of the move, but if they are doing so, they should know that the last time they had moved a no-confidence motion, the BJP came back to power with a strong majority with over 300 seats.This time, if we move a no-confidence motion, we will get more than 350 seats. In more than four years, there has been no no-confidence motion against the Modi government in the 17th Lok Sabha. The first motion against the Modi government in the 16th Lok Sabha was brought on July 20, 2018, in which the NDA government defeated the no-confidence motion by 126 votes against 325.
