Ganderbal, Dec 01: The Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) in Kangan, under the leadership of Easar-Ul-Nabi, marked “World HIV/AIDS Day” with a program held at Trauma Hospital Kangan. The event, attended by Chief Guest Eassar ul Nabi, Medical Superintendent Dr. Salma, Trauma Hospital doctors and para-medical staff, featured informative sessions by Dr. Shabir Ahmad Rather and Dr. Insha.
The speakers emphasized key methods and preventive measures to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS. Chairman TLSC Kangan, Easar-Ul-Nabi, stressed the importance of raising awareness in society about preventive measures and maintaining a hygienic lifestyle to prevent the disease.
Dr. Shabir Ahmad Rather highlighted that World HIV/AIDS Day, observed annually on December 1st, carries the theme “Let Communities Lead” this year. He urged the audience to actively participate in spreading awareness among the general public about preventing HIV/AIDS, emphasizing that change requires a collective effort.
Advocate Sajad Ahmad Khan, the resource person, shed light on the alarming statistics of HIV/AIDS in India and globally. As of 2020, AIDS has claimed the lives of 27.2 million people in India and 47.8 million worldwide. Approximately 37.7 million people are living with HIV, making it a critical global public health issue. Advocate Sajad Ahmad Khan also highlighted a positive note, stating that in many regions worldwide, the death rate from the AIDS epidemic has decreased by 64% since its peak in 2004.
The event concluded with a call to action, urging the community to contribute to the ongoing movement against HIV/AIDS by actively engaging in awareness campaigns and preventive measures.
